Nia Dacosta talks Little Woods
Nia DaCosta sat down April 9 with Women in Entertainment at ArcLight Hollywood to discuss her debut feature film, Little Woods.
The writer-director said that the theatrical release of Little Woods was the "cherry on top," as the manifestation of her vision through film was enough reward.
"I very much wanted it to be on the big screen," DaCosta said, "so I'm happy that it is."
In North Dakota, two estranged sisters grapple with the realities of rural life and are driven to work outside the law to better their lives.
Lily James and Tessa Thompson play Deb and Ollie, two sisters who succumb to Murphy's Law and are put to the test to overcome their socioeconomic pitfalls.
DaCosta said that while she didn't want to have "a political message" necessarily, she did want to tell the stories of people often forgotten by coastal America.
"I wanted to show the human parts of their issues," DaCosta said.
In a masterful display of conviction and perseverance, Little Woods hails the triumph of the human spirit while championing the unbreakable bond between sisters.
